Practise English with native speakers

Shenley Welcomes is a new conversation café in the Shenley area of Selly Oak.
It is for anyone who wants to practise speaking English.

We will meet together, get to know one another, and practise speaking English together in fun ways.
It's completely free.

We meet Fridays, 1.30-3pm
at Shenley Court Hall, 200 Green Meadow Rd, B294ED
After a successful six-week trial, we now meet every Friday in termtime.

More information:

Who is Shenley Welcomes for?

This group is for anyone who wants to grow in confidence in speaking English. If you are new to the UK, or you have been here for years, you are welcome.

What happens at a session?

Each session will be a mix of welcome, fun activities, and guided conversation in small groups. There are native speakers in each group. We will use pictures, resources and games to get you using English. All with drinks and snacks.

How much does it cost?

Shenley Welcomes is completely free.

Are these ESOL lessons?

No. Shenley Welcomes is not a formal language class. It's a friendly space to talk together in English with some native speakers. We'll learn through fun activities and guided conversation together.

Can I bring a child?

We want to be as welcoming as possible, so if you need to bring a pre-school child with you, you can. You will be responsible for your own children during the session, and some simple toys will be provided.

Do I need to be a Christian to come along?

No! Shenley Welcomes is for anyone. It is run by Christians from Churchcentral South, but this is not a religious service or activity. We welcome people of all faiths or no faith equally.
